5 Step Programme to Successfully Supply Your Dream Retailers
Through my 5 step programme we work together so that you can not only secure contracts with your dream retailers but also build successful relationships with them which allows you to grow your orders for years to come. This programme is your blueprint for success.
We analyse your existing range and make sure that everything that you are selling is making you the profit margin that you need to achieve to ensure you are running a sustainably profitable business. It’s amazing how a slight change in currency rates, a small increase in the price of raw materials or a discount to a large retailer can start to erode your overall margin. This is where we find out exactly the state of play with your range and this is the starting point to make sure that everything you offer your dream retailers is making you a profit.
It’s homework time! Now that we know all of your products are properly priced to ensure you are making a profit we start to analyse which parts of your range suit each dream client. One of the biggest mistakes that suppliers make is to send everything in their range to every retailer that they are keen to work with no thought as to what the buyer is going to do with all the info that they have been bombarded with. Everyone is incredible busy nowadays and potential suppliers who do not proper prep before sending their information in will not get very far.
This takes us very neatly to step 3 where we create your perfect presentation to wow the buyer and have them breathing a sigh of relief because you have done your homework thoroughly and you are offering them the solution to the gaps they have in their range. Never underestimate how powerful step 3 is to getting your products selected.
Step 3 and 4 go hand in hand as you need to make sure that you have worked out exactly what pricing you can afford to offer. There will always be some negotiation needed, especially with the larger retailers, on your pricing and I will guide you through how to set your prices and how to negotiate so that you are supplying all your products profitably.
This is where we write your contract fulfilment plan. This makes sure you can honour all the terms of your contract correctly. This is the step that a lot of inexperienced suppliers fall down at because they assume all is well because their products have been selected. Until the contracts have been signed the retailer can pull out of the deal so you must make sure that you are complying with all the terms you have agreed to in a timely way. At Lakeland we had a drop off rate of about 10% at this stage of selection because when it came down to all the detail the suppliers couldn’t do what they had agreed to. You don’t want to be in this 10%.
